London Calling Nails Did

My friend Amanda celebrated her 30th yesterday! So in honor of that milestone I thought I'd do something that reminds me of her - Union Jack nails! Although Amanda is only British by ancestry (oh admit it you were born here!) whenever I think of Londoners I think of her first for no particular reason :D

So I used Essie Midnight Cami as the base, a nail art pen in white and another in red for the cross lines. Then I topped off the red with China Glaze Ruby Pumps to give it a bit of sparkle!

Oh - so I finally ran out of Seche Vite. That's right. And since I've so far been extremely unsuccessful finding it in Toronto, and since my husband forbid me from buying any more polish online, I decided to take another nail bloggers suggestion and try out Sally Hansen Mega Shine. Oh. My. God. This is a little $7 bottle of shiny, fast-drying topcoat HEAVEN!!!! I can say that its definatly comparable to Seche. It dries super fast and hard in no time. Granted I smudged my thumb a bit, but thats also because I have patience for nothing and probably should have gave the Ruby Pumps another minute or so to settle before topping it. Anyway - I think I've found a new polish love!!

Happy Birthday Amanda!

Tron Nails Did

OMG, have you seen the new Tron Legacy trailer? If not enjoy:

SO EXCITING! I love Tron. I even have the 20th anniversary collectors edition *pushes nerd glasses even further up the nose*. I hope they don't ruin it...but from what I can see it looks awesome!!

Of course this sparked an idea for nail art! I couldnt decide whether to do the blue vs. red (as in the movie) or the blue vs. yellow (as in the game)...yes they were different!! :P So I did both!

I started out with Essie Midnight Cami and free-handed some grid-lines with a black nail art pen.

Then I started drawing the game with my red, blue, and yellow nail art pens. I used white and orange for some accents where the other cars lose on the thumbs.

This is my left hand:

And my right hand.

and a closeup of the left thumb:

Are there any movies that you're excited to see?

I think I'm finally getting to see Alice in Wonderland today...I wanted to avoid the crowds after the whole going to see Avatar debacle :S

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!! I have a bridal shower and have to wear a hula skirt all day tomorrow.

Pray for me.

Oscar Caliber Nails Did

If its one awards show that I'm always going to watch its the Academy Awards (besides the Tony's but I always miss it :S). I LOVE the Oscars, as much as I HATE the Oscars. Let's face it, in the end its all about politics - Avatar for best film? Cmon!

Anyway I lucked out since there were 10 films nominated in the Best Picture category I could actually accomplish 10 different nail art on each finger about each movie!

So here is my right hand:

And here is my left!

Okay now to break it down...

Precious
Have you seen this movie? If not then I HIGHLY suggest that you do. Its so powerful and both leading ladies completely deserve to be nominated in their categories.
So for this I used Opi's Thrill in Brazil with a black nail art pen.

Avatar
WHY IS THIS MOVIE NOMINTED FOR BEST FILM? I hate you.

I used nail art pens in black, yello, blue and white. Essie Midnight Cami and China Glaze Sexy in the City

District 9
There has been many mixed feelings about District 9 but I just genuinely love this movie. I think Sci-Fi's do social commentary the very best and D9 was awesome.

I used nail art pens in black, silver and white and China Glaze Liquid Leather

Up
Such a beautiful and touching movie. I really wish I didn't fall asleep in the theatre the first time seeing it LOL. Seriously though its a must see.

I used nail pens in blue, red, purple, green, orange, pink and black with Rimmel Torrid and China Glaze Lemon Fizz

Inglorious Basterds
Ugh, I have a love/hate relationship with Tarantino. I didn't love this movie but I didn't hate it. Waltz absolutely deserves his nomination (now win!) for this though.

I used art pens in black white and red

Up In The Air
I didn't want to watch this movie, but I was doing work orders at work and put it on in the background (I love dual screens). Its actually REALLY good and Clooney is just so sexy in that aging gracefully type of way.

I used Nubar LLC with a black art pen

The Hurt Locker
Man did I try to watch this movie..I'm just not a war movie girl. But I did hear that the movie was excellent and I totally hope that Cameron loses to Bigelow for best director. SNAP

I used OPI Curry Up Don't Be Late, Nubar Forest, nail art pen in khaki and Nubar NV2

An Education
I fell asleep 5 minutes into this movie. Ben ended up fast forwarding through the whole thing. Here is the jist: girl wants education, meets man, has sex with man, fails at education, The end.

I used art pens in black, white, red and silver and China Glaze Lemon Fizz

The Blind Side
As good as this movie was, Sandra Bullock just doesn't deserve a best actress win. No. But is she gonna win anyway? Yes.

I used Nubar Forest with a white art pen.

A Serious Man
This is the only movie nominated in this category I haven't seen or attempted to see.

It just seems so...serious...someone let me know how it is. naturally I went with the lead characters glasses...because glasses make a serious man.

I used China Glaze White on White with black nail art pen.
