Holiday Party Nails Did

Ah the Holidays are here again! I love Christmas despite the fact that the last few years in Toronto has been pretty snow-less. But I usually do get all excited about Christmas parties and putting up the tree. This past weekend Ben and I actually had 4 (!) parties to attend!! So I needed something versatile to get me through them all! So I've done gradient's before but I thought it would be neat to do one from left to right on my hand instead of top to bottom of each nail. For the base I used OPI Thrill in Brazil and sponged China Glaze 2030 on my pointer and middle finger, then switched using 2030 as the base and sponging Thrill in Brazil for my ring and pinky. Then I topped them off for some extra glam with red glitter from Midie Glitter 3 and a nail art pen in gold glitz.

And here are some pictures from the parties! Look at me looking all tired and pregnant LOL. And one of the parties was actually a dinner murder mystery. There is Ben being called out of the crowd by one of the actresses and looking mighty uncomfortable! LOL

The Heat is on in Saigon + Chilly Penguin Nails Did

You know what's awesome? Turning on your computer to see the a blue screen that says: Virus Detected please check the F Drive - and then cycles through start up again, and again...and again.

SO - sufficed to say I haven't been able to post in a bit since my computer went kaput so I'm going to do a 2-in-1!!

My first mani I bring you to you my Miss Saigon nails. Ben bought us (well me let's be honest) tickets to see the musical Miss Saigon. I've been waiting FOREVER to see it since it was last in Toronto and I LOVED it. The music was beautiful and the voices were fantastic. If you're into musicals and you ever get the chance to check this one out I highly recommend it!

I used OPI's Thrill in Brazil for the base and then free-handed China Glaze Solar Power for the yellow suns. I then blended the bottoms out with a sponge. I used a black nail art striper pen for the writing that's supposed to also look like a helicopter. I was absolutely in love with this mani and how it came out.



For my next mani I wanted to turn down the heat a bit because its been so FREAKING hot here in Toronto. Like sweltering. Now, I'm not about to complain too hard because last year we hardly got a summer at all so I'd much rather some sun and heat then rain and cloud...but cmoooon 40c with the humidex!? WHY?!? And also I loooooooove penguins so much! They're so cute!!

I used China Glaze White on White for the base and black and orange nail art pens for the penguins bodies and beaks.

Sunset in the City Nails Did

Sometimes when I go to and from work on the highway I think - yea Toronto is really pretty! And sometimes there is a huge smog cloud :S

Either way, despite the fact that I'm always wanting to escape I do love my city. So I thought I'd do a little homage to it. I used this picture as my inspiration because it looks very much like one I took when my Ben and I were first dating, coming back from the Toronto Island on the Ferry and seeing the city at sunset.

I started out blending CG Liquid Leather and Sexy in the City to get a slightly deeper blue for the darkest part of the sky. Then I blended in by using a sponge CG Coconut Kiss for the purple and CG Solar Power mixed with OPI Thrill in Brazil to get an orange.

Then I used a fine brush and Liquid Leather to paint little buildings and the CN Tower (with a bit of Thrill in Brazil again for the red beacons). I highlighted them with some CG White on White and mixed the two to get a grey to highlight the edges of the buildings.

I sealed it all off with Seche Vite.

I think it looks pretty cool! What do you think?

The idea just popped into my head today on the way home and I'm glad I ran with it. Makes me feel a bit better about my mani from yesterday :P. AND I think I can put up with this one for a couple of days until I try out my Valentines Day mani (hopefully it works out!). Plus, Ben says I have to start doing my nails less since the fumes are making him loopy. Really I don't notice the difference in him LOL.

Office Nails Did

I like having my office ladies look good and what better way than to treat them to a little nail art?



Elif doesn't often get her nails did - in fact she says shes a chronic biter (bad Elif!), she's also not that girly so she says *cough* twilight reader *cough* so we thought we'd go with something a little dark and not super feminine. Opi's Linkin Park After Dark for the base topped with Konad stamping silver with M60 for the design.

Jenn likes to take advantage of my nail art so you'll probably see more and more of her in my blog as the days go by. She's also a chronic chipper. I dont know how you wear down nails after 2 days...USE A BASE COAT JENN! So she already had a champagne pink type colour on her nails that had tip wear so I sponged on Opi's Curry Up Don't Be Late to cover them and then stamped with Konad stamping black with M51 for the design. Came off as a pretty cool effect and actually brought out a lot of the silver tones in her original polish.

Waterlmel-icous Nails Did

This design is a total steal from The Daily Nail's fruit did's thumb, only I did my whole hand. In this I used two brand new (for me) techniques: spongeing and frankening.

Spongeing: use a sponge. duh.

Frankening: combining two or more polishes to get a new colour.

Look at me, I'm learning nail lingo! ...I hate you.

Anyway, the pink is frankened from a Sally Hansen french nail polish + an un-named dusty rose + an un-named hot pink. Then sponged ontop with China Glaze's White on White and on top of that sponged with a frankened Sally Hansen french nail polish + Sally Hansen Emerald City. The black is done with a nail art pen.

I actually might keep this for more than 2 days...which has been my average lately...I obviously need to go back to work to occupy myself.
