Holiday Bling Nails Did

with flash
Whooh what a crazy week! I've been off on maternity leave now since last Thursday and I know I'm supposed to use this time to rest up before the baby comes but really I've been on the go EVERY DAY! But I did find some time last night to do my nails. I wanted to do something not so typically "Christmas" so I did a sort of winter wonderland feel. Please forgive my lack of watermark (please don't steal my pics, they're crappy anyway LOL) since I'm working on my new macbook and don't have Photoshop set up yet :(

without flash
I used Orly Rage with some snowflake rhinestones and little blue and silver beads that I picked up for really cheap on Ebay! Slapped it all on with nail glue (hate that stuff) and Sally Hansen's  Top Coat. Does anyone know of a topcoat or technique that won't dull your rhinestones??

Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and safe Holiday!! All the best leading up to the new year and beyond! And please send me some blessings to get this baby out - its due on Thursday!!!

Last Wedding of the YEAR Nails Did

I guess its just that time in my life now but I've been to more weddings this year than pretty much any other year ever! But the last one was great. This time we celebrated Amy and Sheriff who had a very interesting Jewish/African fusion wedding. It was fab. I love multicultural weddings where I get to learn about other people's traditions! I learned that its custom in Sheriff's culture to do a little dance while your family members shower you with money! They were seriously surrounded by people throwing US dollars at them! It made me feel like they were in one of those game show boxes where money is blown all around you!

So, as always I was in a rush - and though you may not be able to tell in this pic I smooshed 3 of my nails and had to redo them in 5 minutes while Ben is screaming at me to get in the car LOL. I used China Glaze White on White then did a (very crudely done) ruffian with China Glaze Liquid Leather. I also used Konad Special Stamping polish in Silver with a Bundle Monster plate, then threw on a rhinestone. For all the stuff I used I was pretty meh about it and the pictures TOTALLY doesn't do it justice...it did look a little better. Plus because of the rush I didn't get to actually clean up my cuticles. Note to self - 15 minutes is not enough for a manicure! When will I learn?

So Many Weddings Nails Did

Okay this is officially my 3rd wedding manicure! I'm all wedding'd out! By the end of the year I'll have just one more (thank goodness). This past Friday I had the pleasure of attending my friend Xavier's wedding to Denise. Xavier and I go way back to high school and all those times he used to bring his dog Ozzy to visit me at the radio station when I was in the studio. He then moved away to Fernie, British Columbia and lives amongst snowy mountains and clean air - jerk LOL. But he came back to the city to tie the knot! It was a truly lovely wedding!

For my mani - which again was rushed :P - I used this new H&M polish I bought called Grey Sky which is a grey with purple hues and a wee bit of shimmer. It comes in this cute little bottle that now I have to go back and buy some more because I used too much already! Ontop I used Konad black and a Bundle Monster Image plate for the stamp. Then I put on some black pearls that I found at the craft store and a little dot of white from a nail art pen in the middle of each flower stamp. I know its a little dark looking for a wedding - but hey my dress was black and I was having an AWFUL time finding a maternity dress suitable enough for a wedding! Yes that's Ben's eye peeking out in my picture.

Oh, and this is me and my longtime friend Teresa doing the chicken dance...which seemed to last forever. She specifically requested it. It was baby's first ho-down! By the way, Teresa also makes some fab beaded jewelery. Pop on by BuonaBam to check it out!

Pearls Just Wanna Have Fun Nails Did

So I actually forgot to press "post" on this one...so here it is a week late :)

My friend Suzanne is getting married in a couple of days (finally) and we all got together in a very pink, very shagadelic karaoke bus to celebrate!

We were asked to wear pink and black to the event, and I'm SO not a fan of pink - but at least I can do my nails pink'd out!

I used China Glaze Liquid Leather for the black and Finger Paints Up and Coming Artist for the pink.
I then put on some swoops of black and pink with a nail pen and used some self-adhesive pearls I got from the craft store for little add ons!

They were cute but they didnt last too long! No worries since I was so ready to take off the pink!

Here are some fun pics from the night out!

Mais Oui Nails Did

Oooh la la! I'm feeling a bit better lately and my goal this week is to get back into the swing of things and posting regularly again :) Today I thought I'd do something a bit France inspired since I just received my prize winnings from Glammed Up - the Color Club Pardon My French Collection! I'm usually not into pastels and *gasp* a whole lot of glitter...but they do serve a purpose :) I started off with a base of  Take Me To Your Chateau which is a pale blue creme and free-handed french tips using a combination of Hot Couture and Si Vous Please. Then I used a black nail art pen to give it a little tuxedo twist and topped my thumb off with a little Eiffel Tower and a rhinestone. Simple but nice I think! I hope you all are enjoying your summer days! Its soooooooooo hot here...but I'd rather this than the snow! :)

Birthday Bling Nails Did + Birthday Giveaway!!

**EDIT: The contest is now closed. Thanks to everyone for entering!!!**

Hello! I wanted to do something non-typical for my birthday. Everyone was telling me to fit on 28 candles but I just thought that was boring, until I thought I'd stick ACTUAL candles on my nails...but I'd probably start a fire.

Oh, here is a birthday story for ya: I think I was about 6 and I was celebrating my birthday with my Dad. He made me a cake that had a LOT of candles and sparklers on it. Now, back in the day my caucasian grandma, who has no idea how to manage hair like mine, used to brush it out so hard I looked like Diana Ross on crack. Now imagine that hair in two "pig tails" (think puffballs) on either side of my head. Anyway, so there I was, excited 6 year old me, with all these fancy candles and what not on my Strawberry Shortcake cake and I was tossing my head back and forth. All of a sudden I see this glint out of the corner of my eye and about 15 seconds later my Dad is screaming and smacking at my head. Thats right, my cake set my hair on fire. Happy Birthday to me.

So this year to celebrate I decided to turn my nails into little birthday disco balls! I started off with China Glaze OMG as the base and then I snagged some craft rhinestones that were in a border shape from the dollar store, cut them separately with a knife then maneuvered them onto my nails with tweezers. After about a gazillion hours later I put on some topcoat which sort of dulled the rhinestones, so I gave them all a coat of Sally Hansen Disco Ball.

Bling Bling!! I kinda love them.

And, what better way to celebrate my 28 years on earth than a giveaway!

Its Definately Not Easy Being Green Nails Did

Okay so in my last post I was super excited because I just got my hands on two Zoya polishes which I had been coveting ON SALE! So tonight I thought I'd try Zoya Veruschka since it was eying me tantalizingly from its bottle.

Here it is with nothing on it. It was actually really surprising to me. Usually I check out a lot of polish sites and swatches before I grab a polish but this one caught my eye right off the shelf and I didn't do any further research into it. So who knew it was going to go on almost like Emerald Sparkle...but then it went matte/shimmer...and then just matte. It was kinda dissapointing that with all that application shimmer that it would kinda just fade away :( So now its just a really dark matte green. But I can work with that.

Oh and before I continue - holy long drying time batman!! I must have smudged my right thumb like two times before it finally set. SO FRUSTRATING!

So I wanted to keep it simple, mostly because I'm not feeling too well and have the sniffles :( So I decided to use a Konad plate and Nubar Wildlife which I haven't gotten a chance to use yet. So this is plate M51's flower design. And then I put a rhinestone in the middle which involved me somehow getting super glue on my tongue! I don't know how these things happen I'm just awesome like that :S

By the way these had to be one of the hardest things to photograph to date! But as you can see the Zoya polish is hardly shimmery and the Nubar polish is just meh. I think Wildlife would be awesome as a base but not so much Konading...or perhaps i just have to find the right base for it. I consider this a mani-fail. So not in love with it but it'll have to do for one day until I find the strength to change it tomorrow. Boo.

Oh and here is a swatch of the Gosh Golden Dragon polish I bought yesterday too. This is two coats. It's kind of a blue/green with a hint of gold. I think it definately would need more than 2 coats if it was going to be your base. But the colour is super!

Robots and Rhinestones Nails Did

So my Konad nail manicure didn't last very long - which happens especially when I put too many rhinestones on them and then I sit in the car and absentmindedly pick at the rhinestones until they fall off and I'm screaming curse words while my brother is trying to talk about rent money or some crap. So I redid them WITH EVEN BIGGER RHINESTONES. Ben asks me if I learned my rhinestone lesson and I say to him - "pfft. Clearly not."

So these kinda remind me of robots, I guess its just the silver or something. Whatever, I like them. And as of one day later out of 10 applied rhinestones I have 4 remaining. I think I lost them in the following places: the couch, the bathroom, the car, my aunt's house, down Sapporo's throat, and into my hair. Seriously I'm going to find that shit next time I wash it.

So I did these with China Glaze's Silver Chrome, Sexy in the City and Turned up Turquoise. Then for the lines and dots just a nail art pen in black. Then affixed with some turquoise rhinestones from the dollarstore!
