Kurosuke Soot Nails Did

Who doesn't love the Kurosuke Soot Balls from Totoro and Spirited Away? THEY'RE SO CUTE!

I recently re-watched some of Miyazaki's films and was kinda of mad at myself for not ever doing homage to his characters in nail art form! So basically look for more of these designs to come LOL. One of my favorite characters from Studio Ghibli are the Soot - I even have a plush one that rattles when you pull a string!

So for the base I used China Glaze Recycle, then for the black balls - Orly Matte Vinyl. To get the "fuzzy" edges I used a fan brush and dipped it in polish to sweep on the polish. For the white eyes I used a nail art pen.

Bees! Nails Did

Buzz Buzz! I watched "Bee Movie" over the weekend and was inspired to do this manicure! Plus its yellow, and since its one of my favorite colours it was an easy choice for a fun mani! Oh but can I just say that Jerry Seinfeld shouldn't be allowed to do voice overs for movies? He just sounds like Jerry Seinfeld...no different. But its SO obvious. Much like how Nicholas Cage is just Nicholas Cage in every movie he's in. But don't get me started on that man...ugh.

So for the base I used China Glaze Solar Power and for the honeycomb I used Lemon Fizz and a nail art brush. Octagons are hard to freehand let me just say! For the bees I used a yellow, black and white nail art pen. I think it came out super cute!

I also thought for fun that I would post a pic of my work station LOL. So messy! I don't have nearly as many polishes as some of you lovely ladies out there but I certainty put them all to good use!

Harry Potter Nails Did

Put ya nails up if you love Harry Potter!!

So good. See, I may hate Twilight but I LOVE me some Harry Potter movie franchise. This past weekend I saw the latest movie which is 1/2 of book 7 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It was seriously fantastic and was what I consider to be the closest adaptation to the books since the first and second movies. It was also a little sexy! But I won't ruin that part for a few of you who haven't seen it. GO SEE IT ALREADY!!

So I thought I'd do a little Harry Potter theme. For a base I simply used China Glaze Liquid Leather. On my thumb I did the HP logo in China Glaze 2030 and dusted on some glitter from a nail art pen in gold.

For the golden snitches I used 2030 for the ball part and then a silver nail art pen for the wings. You can't see it too well but I also swiped on some iridescence onto the wings with OPI Happy Anniversary.

I think they're super cute and I can't wait to see the part 2!! You can bring a baby to the movies right? *sigh*

Who's a Dotty Girl? Nails Did

It's been SO HOT here in Toronto, I'm actually surprised today's mani wasn't blazing hot suns!!! Geez. Seriously all I've been doing is sitting around chomping on watermelon. Mmmm....watermelon.

So, I managed to make it out of the house the other day to see the movie Exit Through the Gift Shop - have you seen this movie? Awesome. Confusing. Art? I thought it was about the street artist Banksy, but it totally turned in all sorts of different directions that left me walking out going: "Huuh. HUH. Oooh." But it really was good. For those of you who don't know Banksy's art check it out here. He recently was in Toronto and within a day or so, the art that he had put up around the city was very distastefully destroyed before I got to see it. *sigh*

But anyway, before I went to the movies I popped into H&M to pick up some new sunglasses and there they were...the H&M polishes!!! Last time I asked about these some sales girl looked at me like I was crazy. The bins were FULL of them. I was in a rush so I only picked up Bella's Choice (and NOT because of Twilight :P ) because it was the prettiest colour by far. So I used that as my base today and dotted some black, white and orange pens on top. I think its cute. And, lets face it. its after midnight so it was fast LOL.

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer so far! Stay tuned for a giveaway really soon!

Nail Challenge Tag - Memoirs of a Geisha Spring Nails Did

Lacquermanic came up with this great idea to do a challenge tag and I'm honored to be the first participant!

Here are the rules:

1) Make a swatch, tightly connected to a favourite film, book, music or painting. No rules what so ever. You describe what film/book etc. is, and why it means so much to you.

2) At the end of the post, you challenge another nail blogger. Let her know that she’s challenged, and leave the opportunity to turn down the challenge or accept it.

Pretty simple right!?

Okay, so I chose one of my favorite books AND movies - Memoirs of a Geisha.

I cant tell you how much I love the cinematic value of this movie. The scenes and costumes are breathtaking as are the backdrop of Japan that it's set against. I remember being in Gion in Kyoto and all I could think of was this movie and how it must have been in its prime back before WWII. I even used the main theme of the movie as my walking down the aisle music! Even though the story line is a bit creepy - HOW old is the Chairman??? Sayuri is like..9. Its one of those movies that I can watch over and over and always find something new in it.

So I did Sayuri's spring kimono (or...close to it LOL). It turned out looking a bit like Easter but I like it!

I used China Glaze White on White for the base and then layered For Audrey on top, leaving a "V" shape. Then I took Orly Snowcone (my new fav sky blue) and with a small brush drew the fabric lines.

The Obi is made of Joe Fresh Coral, OPI's Curry Up Don't be Late, and China Glaze 2030. I also used dots of a pink nail art pen and Orly Fantasea.

So to continue the tag I challenge:
Scandalous

Do you accept? :D

GODZILLAAAH! Nails Did

I was totally set out to do something completely different today but then this popped into my head. I've always loved the idea of a big 'ol lizard destroying a big city willy nilly! I saw the remake movie before I ever saw the original and I remember bursting out laughing in the middle of the scene where they all notice Godzilla and start running away screaming. Awesome. So, originally it was supposed to be Godzilla vs. Mothra...but to be completely honest - I just got wicked lazy LOL. I really like how these turned out though despite the fact there is no epic battle between two large monsters.

For the base I used China Glaze Solar Power and for the grey tips that are the street I mixed a grey (still don't have CG Recycle *cries*) from Sally Hansen French White and Wet and Wild black. The buildings are also mixes of the same white and black only in different proportions. Then I used nail art pens for Godzilla in dark green, mint, black, red and white, and also red and orange for the fiery buildings.

Seriously these nails make me laugh!

Oh, and if you haven't seen this GEM of a trailer, behold Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus!!!
Awesome.

Clockwork Orange Nails Did

I was watching the classic Clockwork Orange by Stanley Kubrick the other day for the first time in a long time and it really dawned on me how much I do love this movie. Not exactly sure why though. I mean, the main guy is such an anti-hero, the movie is filled with gratuitous violence and in the end its like no one really learns anything or changes for the better. But there is just something about the aesthetic of this movie which makes it one of my all time favorites. And so I decided to do a homage to it with nail art of course!

I used Billy Burning Hot for the orange, tried to be patient and let it dry completely, then used Nailene straight nail guides (I gave it another shot!!) to guide the tips that are in China Glaze Solar Power. I used nail art pens for the black lines, and Alex the Narrator's green and blue shirt and eye. I frankened Sally Hansen Satin Slip Frost and Elegance French White together to get his flesh tone.

I kinda love it.

And JUST in case - here is a little snippet from the movie. WARNING: this movie was considered "banned" for a reason

Tron Nails Did

OMG, have you seen the new Tron Legacy trailer? If not enjoy:

SO EXCITING! I love Tron. I even have the 20th anniversary collectors edition *pushes nerd glasses even further up the nose*. I hope they don't ruin it...but from what I can see it looks awesome!!

Of course this sparked an idea for nail art! I couldnt decide whether to do the blue vs. red (as in the movie) or the blue vs. yellow (as in the game)...yes they were different!! :P So I did both!

I started out with Essie Midnight Cami and free-handed some grid-lines with a black nail art pen.

Then I started drawing the game with my red, blue, and yellow nail art pens. I used white and orange for some accents where the other cars lose on the thumbs.

This is my left hand:

And my right hand.

and a closeup of the left thumb:

Are there any movies that you're excited to see?

I think I'm finally getting to see Alice in Wonderland today...I wanted to avoid the crowds after the whole going to see Avatar debacle :S

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!! I have a bridal shower and have to wear a hula skirt all day tomorrow.

Pray for me.
